Who does it effect?
Anyone can get a fungal infection of the skin. Fungal infections are caused by types of fungi that like warm, moist areas of the skin, such as between the toes or fingers, in the groin, and on other parts of the body where there are folds of skin. The fungus can be carried by kittens and puppies, combs, brushes, pillows, hats, and towels, and is found in areas that are warm and moist, such as locker rooms and showers.

What are the symptoms?
Jock itch appears around the groin area (but not on the penis) and looks like a red, ring-like rash. Jock itch can be extremely itchy and form small, painful blisters.

Athlete’s foot appears between the toes as a scaly, itchy rash. It can range from mild irritation to cracking and peeling, making the skin quite sore and more susceptible to bacterial infection.

Ringworm: of the body looks like a rash that forms one-half to one-inch, ring-shaped, pink or red patches with a clear centre. The rash may itch slightly.

Scalp ringworm: may cause round patches of hair loss, broken hair, and/or an itchy, scaly scalp. Scalp ringworm is extremely contagious among children.

Nappy Rash:  can begin with softening and breakdown of the tissue around the anus. The infected area is red and elevated and fluid may be visible under the skin. Small raised infected areas (satellite pustules) appear at the periphery of the rash. These satellite pustules are characteristic of Candida nappy rash.

Sometimes a fungal infection on one part of the body can cause a rash on another part of the body, which is an allergic reaction to the fungus.

How can it be prevented (non-medication)?
Fungal infections are contagious; Warmth, humidity, sweating, and poor air circulation bring about fungal infections.  Athlete’s foot can be passed through contact with locker room and shower floors, and by sharing footwear and socks; you can acquire tinea versicolor from vinyl surfaces of weight lifting benches; and ringworm is contagious through direct contact.

Directions for use

Gently rub a small quantity of Hydrozole®  Cream into the affected area and surrounding skin two or three times daily.

Apply enough cream to disappear into the skin without leaving any on the skin.

If the location of the skin condition is in an area normally covered with clothing, you should ensure that loose clothing is worn over the area to be treated.

It is important to use Hydrozole®  Cream exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has directed. If you use it less often than you should, it may not work as well and your skin problem may not improve.
